01

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/v3d: Clear queue->active_job when v3d_fence_create() fails The run_job() callbacks for BIN, RENDER, TFU and CSD assign the incoming job to queue->active_job before calling v3d_fence_create(). If v3d_fence_create() fails, the callback returns NULL without clearing active_job, leaving a dangling pointer. Create a failure path in all run_job() callbacks that clears the active job before returning NULL. The BIN path takes queue->queue_lock around the clear as it races against v3d_overflow_mem_work(); RENDER, TFU and CSD paths have no concurrent reader, so the clear is lock-free.

Engine v0.6.0

Risk summary

A local user with access to the V3D GPU device node can trigger a use-after-free by causing fence creation to fail during GPU job submission, leaving a dangling pointer that concurrent kernel code paths may dereference. This can lead to kernel memory corruption, information disclosure, or a system crash. Systems with Broadcom V3D GPU hardware (e.g., Raspberry Pi 4/5) are affected.

Affecteddrivers/gpu/drm/v3d/v3d_sched.c (drm/v3d GPU scheduler)

Vulnerability analysis

When the V3D GPU driver submits a job for execution, it stores a reference to that job before attempting to create a synchronization fence. If fence creation fails, the driver returns an error but leaves the stored job reference in place, creating a dangling pointer. Other kernel code paths—such as the binning overflow memory handler—can then access this stale reference, potentially after the job object has already been freed, resulting in a use-after-free. The fix adds proper cleanup in all four job submission paths (binning, render, TFU, and CSD) so that the stored job reference is cleared whenever fence creation fails, with appropriate locking on the binning path to handle concurrent access. The vulnerability is reachable locally by any user with access to the V3D DRM render device node, which on typical Raspberry Pi and similar Broadcom SoC systems is available to non-root users through standard group permissions.
